Vybz Kartel Appeal Trial: Court Allows Fresh Evidence

The Court of Appeal has allowed fresh evidence to be introduced in the appeal trial of Dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel and his three co-accused Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John.

The Defence team managed to achieve a major objective as a panel of judges decided to accept two of three issues presented in their application.

The panel which is headed by Court of Appeal president Justice Dennis Morrison, Justice Patrick Brooks and Frank Williams made the ruling earlier today granting the men leave to appeal their murder convictions.

However, a third issue which sought to introduce fresh evidence regarding the statements made by Kimberly Cranston along with two jurors involved in the corruption case of trial juror Cain Livingston was refused.

Attorneys representing the four men had argued that the case was mismanaged by the trial judge, Justice Lennox Campbell, who ignored several inconsistencies which denied their clients a fair trial.

Vybz Kartel and his three co-accused were found guilty of the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. He will be eligible for parole after serving 35 years.
