Saint Lucians get moving for arthritis

Published

on

2004 Olympian Zepherinus Knockay Joseph had himself a little four-mile run today.

In his previous life, of course, he was used to running much longer distances.

But today’s run was dedicated to people suffering with arthritis.

It’s part of the Saint Lucia Arthritis and Lupus Association’s calendar of acttivities to mark October as Arthritis Awareness Month.

According to Joseph, he moved for you because arthritis has made it hard for you to move.

Zeph also challenged me, so I will have to go home and get moving.

Saint Lucia celebrates as Cavalier win the Jamaica Premier League football title

Published

The community of Caye Mange, Gros Islet was in celebration mode over the weekend, as one of their own tasted sporting success over in Jamaica.

Cavalier Football Club, featuring Saint Lucia international defender Melvin Baby Boy Doxilly, ended a 40-year wait to lift the Jamaica Premier League trophy after edging Waterhouse Football Club 5-4 on penalties on Saturday evening at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence in Kingston.

The final between the top two teams in the truncated season was delayed by half an hour and was interrupted by a heavy downpour, and after a 1-1 draw in regulation and after extra time, it came down to a penalty shoot-out and sudden death.

Doxilly spoke with MBC Sports earlier today about one of the biggest moments in his young career.

Doxilly says he’s been very happy with his season in Jamaica, and he is looking forward to the possibility of returning.

Like many Saint Lucian players, the 23-year-old central defender was basically idle for most of 2020.

Previously having played for Morvant Caledonia United in the Trinidad and Tobago Professional League, and for Northern United here in Saint Lucia, he says he has enjoyed his time in the Land Of Wood And Water, and he thinks his coaches and teammates have enjoyed having him as well.

For the season, Doxilly has racked up over 1000 minutes, has scored an excellent goal, and picked up two assists – he is one of three Saint Lucians playing in Jamaica this season.
