“Security deposit” may soon be required for participation in the Canadian Farm Workers Program. Labour Minister Stephenson King told the media this week it is a necessary measure stemming from concerns over Saint Lucian farm workers absconding in Canada.

Despite rescinding the order for fishermen to remain in port for one week, the Chastanet administration continues to face criticism for the decision. The government and local fishers appear to have reached a compromise on the recently imposed seven day suspension of fishing licenses declared by the Prime Minister on October 30. The government acquiesced to a sit down with the fishing community and on November 3 reportedly agreed to rescind the suspension. Operations manager of the Goodwill Fishermen’s Cooperative Kaygianna Toussaint -Charlery disclosed to MBC Prime fishers as of November 5 will be allowed to return to sea albeit with new restrictions.
