A Police operation in Vieux Fort has resulted in the seizure of a number of guns, bullet proof vests and ski masks, among other items. Several individuals have been taken into custody as a result. Among the weapons the police recovered was an AR 15 automatic rifle and approximately 110 rounds of ammunition. Other ammunition officers recovered included hollow point bullets. Hollow point bullets have a hole at the top, which allows the projectile to expand on impact. Experts say those bullets are more lethal than regular ones. The police operation in Vieux Fort also netted cannabis and cash. Meanwhile a series of operations conducted in the Dennery village, commencing in May 2021 resulted in the recovery of a one smith ad Weston pistol with seven rounds of ammunition and one Taurus 9 millimetre pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition. Two bullet proof vests were found and seized by officers. Six individuals were arrested during the conduct and operations and charges are expected to be laid at a later date.
