FISHERS TO RETURN TO WATERS UNDER NEW RESTRICTIONS

The government and local fishers appear to have reached a compromise on the recently imposed seven day suspension of fishing licenses declared by the Prime Minister on October 30. The abrupt announcement was met with strong condemnation from various fishing lobbies. The government acquiesced to a sit down with the fishing community and on November 3 reportedly agreed to rescind the suspension. Operations manager of the Goodwill Fishermen’s Cooperative Kaygianna Toussaint -Charlery disclosed to MBC Prime fishers as of November 5 will be allowed to return to sea albeit with new restrictions.
