Prosecutors also secured a guilty verdict in a landmark trial more than two decades in the making. In March, a nine member jury found disgraced primary school teacher Forns Arlette guilty on two counts of unlawful carnal knowledge. His victim, who was 11 and 12 years old at the time of the abuse, testified at trial that her teacher – Forns Arlette sexually assaulted her more than 20 years ago between 2000 and 2001. His victim reported the assault to police more than a decade later in 2018. Forns Arlette was subsequently arrested and charged. His trial commenced some four years later in the High Court. Following his guilty verdict, the trial judge ordered the disgraced teacher be remanded in custody until his sentencing which is scheduled for May 27. Forns Arlette faces a possible life sentence.
