The Prime Minister pushed back and shot down conflict of interest assertions over government offices housed in private, family owned buildings.

“Pathetic” – That’s how the Prime Minister characterized a lawsuit reportedly brought against him by Castries South MP Dr. Ernest Hilaire over his alleged role in an ongoing legal dispute between the Customs & Excise Department and Dr. Hilaire to determine the ownership of a 2015 model Land Rover SUV. Dr. Hilaire has long suspected and charged senior government officials of being complicit in an alleged political plot to cause injury to his reputation. His lawyers have so far made good on their threats to sue the perceived co-conspirators implicated in the drawn out Land Rover saga. The Prime Minister, who on November 25, was a guest on a local talk show claims Dr. Hilaire’s pending courtroom battle with Customs is, “… only the beginning of his problems…”

During his contribution on the November 24 multi-million motion to borrow XCD $54million from the China Export-Import Bank for COVID-19 support, Anse-la-raye / Canaries MP Dominic Fedee doubled down on United Workers Party rhetoric accusing the Saint Lucia Labour Party Opposition of triggering the island’s surging second wave of coronavirus cases. Fedee sought to link an October 4 political rally staged by the Opposition for the recent spike in new coronavirus infections. Castries South MP Dr. Ernest Hilaire issued a rejoinder of his own in the Lower House and condemned Fedee’s aspersions. Dr. Hilaire says Fedee’s remarks were “shameful” and has “stigmatized” SLP supporters.
