OPPOSITION SAYS CHASTANET’S “SUCCESS” COMMENTS ON COVID MANAGEMENT WAS PREMATURE

Opposition Leader Philip J Pierre has appealed to the Chastanet led Administration to change course in the ongoing fight to beat back COVID-19.In light of an accelerating COVID-19 infection rate, Pierre says the Prime Minister’s recent vaunt on the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was ill-timed. In an October 29 news conference, Pierre’s Saint Lucia Labour Party Opposition also questioned the government’s capitol works agenda. Healthcare and food security according to Pierre should be government’s top priority.

OUTGOING PRIME MINISTER CONCEDES ELECTION LOSS

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet on July 27 conceded defeat at the polls. After the votes were counted on July 26, the Chastanet led United Workers Party Administration lost nine out of its previously held 11 Seat majority. In a July 27 Facebook post, Mr. Chastanet characterized the Labour Party’s landslide victory as a “shock”. The UWP political leader and outgoing Prime Minister says the Party, “will take time to heal [and] regroup”, in the wake of the election defeat.

PHILIP J PIERRE LEADS LABOUR PARTY TO LANDSLIDE ELECTION VICTORY

The outgoing Chastanet led United Workers Party Administration was booted out of Office following the July 26 general election. Philip J Pierre’s Labour Party now commands the majority in the Lower House after winning a total of 13 Seats after the ballots were counted on Election night. Chastanet’s defeated UWP held on to just two constituencies which pundits say represents a swing against the UWP. The historic July 26 election outcome also produced an unlikely Labour Party victory in Micoud North and the so-called “blue wave” washed away the UWP challenge for Castries North.
