Saint Lucia’s only electricity supplier LUCELEC is not immune to the COVID-19 induced economic fallout. Regional credit rating agency CariCRIS has downgraded LUCELEC’s credit rating. CariCRIS cited reduced energy consumption and outstanding debt from major customers like the Saint Lucia government for the “1-notch” downgrade. LUCELEC executives, anticipating improved economic prospects this year, say their expecting to rebound from the CariCRIS credit rating downgrade.

Employees of Treetop Adventures have grown frustrated with the non-payment of terminal benefits, since being made redundant in September 2020. The matter is not set to go before the Labour Tribunal.

The island’s Deputy Police Commissioner has suggested that school children are not exempt from arrest, as the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force seeks to enforce the COVID prevention protocols. However, certain sections of the public have taken exception, including the National Students Council.
