The disappearance of one plant species native to Saint Lucia has been averted through careful action of local forestry and conservation officials. Dubbed the Piton Christmas Tree, the pencil cedar was thought to be extinct, until discovery on Saint Lucia’s two most prominent landmarks. Now efforts are underway to ensure loss of the plant species, is avoided.
