Former Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School student athlete Julien Alfred, was on the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-American list for the 2020 National Collegiate Athletics Association Division One Indoor Track & Field season.
In a year where Alfred became the fastest woman in St. Lucia’s history, the sprint sensation became the first St. Lucian to gain triple honoree recognition. The athlete who now attends the University of Texas, was recognized for her historic exploits in the 60m, 200m, and the 4x400m relays. After having her first season curtailed by injury, the Ciceron native came back with vengeance, breaking the 60m record with a time of 7.10 seconds. Alfred went on to smash the 200 meter national record by running a time of 22.90 seconds. Alfred also reset the St. Lucia 100m record stopping the clock at 11.21 seconds. With Olympics pushed back by a year, there is no doubt that the former Commonwealth gold medalist will be looking to shock the world by doing what many consider to be the impossible.
