INVASIVE SPECIES THREAT TO LOCAL IGUANA

Abandoned pets have presented a significant challenge to local forestry officials, potentially placing the future of the iguana species native to Saint Lucia at risk. Rapid reproduction rates, and transport by members of the public to locations outside of national Iguana habitats, have been identified by forestry officials as posing significant threat to the endangered reptile. Finding a solution to the issue has created an ongoing battle for the Department of Forestry.
