GOV’T GOING ON THE ‘ASSAULT’ AGAINST SO-CALLED FAKE NEWS PEDDLERS

Broadcast Minister Dominic Fedee last week announced plans to collaborate with local media companies in a bid to clamp down on misinformation related to the coronavirus outbreak. MBC Prime understands police are working to identify the source of a viral voice-note which prompted Sandals Resorts to issue a statement refuting claims their staff members had tested positive for the coronavirus. The Prime Minister says his Administration has resisted implementing tighter legislation he says can restrict free speech. However, Fedee has warned authorities will go on the “assault” against so-called fake news spreaders.
