FLETCHER BELIEVES GOV’T SHOULD’VE CONCEDED TO CHASTANET’S SPEAKING REQUEST

Former government minister Dr. James Fletcher says he would have made the discretionary decision to allow Opposition Leader and Micoud South MP Allen Chastanet to speak before the Prime Minister’s rebuttal during the March 31 Estimates debate. Mr. Chastanet, who was denied his request to respond to the government’s side, took an early lunch and never made it back to the Chamber to make a contribution. Dr. Fletcher has admonished the former Prime Minister for “…slacking off on the job…” However, the established convention on speaking orders could have been circumvented just this one time.
