Fears mount in Monchy after two relatives shot and killed

A Monchy family has been plunged into mourning for the second time in two months following the shooting death of another relative. 56 year old Sylvester Louis of Monchy was fatality shot in his vehicle parked outside his home on Wednesday, September 2nd. Police have launched an investigation into the killing.

No Kimani Melius in Zouks V. Jamaica Today

Saint Lucians will have to wait a little longer for the CPL debut of young sensation Kimani Melius in the Caribbean Premier League. Melius who had an outstanding T10 tournament recently was not part of the final eleven called up to take on Jamaica in the Zouk’s opening match up. Well, after losing the toss and being sent in to bat, the St. Lucia Zouks got to 157/7. Roston Chase posted a well put together 52 from 42 deliveries, while Andre Fletcher contributed 22. Rahman took 2/25. In response, Ali’s unbeaten 47 guided Jamaica to their desired total with 8 balls to spare. Jamaica Tallawahs got to 160/5 (Asif Ali 47*, Phillips 44, Powell 26, Brathwaite 18*; Williams 2/32, Cornwall 1/9…Jamaica won by 5 wickets with 8 balls to spare. Guyana Amazon Warriors take on St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. That match got on the way at 5:30PM at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

Gros Islet Native Rufina Paul Retains Presidency of Caribbean Netball Association

Reduit Gros Islet native Rufina Paul has been retained as president of the Caribbean Netball Association. The regional body held its 46th Annual General Meeting via Zoom on Saturday 6th June 2020. The AGM was attended by 20 delegates and six observers from 12 member countries namely: 

  • Anguilla
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Bermuda
  • Cayman Islands
  • Commonwealth of Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Jamaica
  • Montserrat
  • Saint Lucia
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and
  • Trinidad and Tobago

As a result, the members of the approved Executive by Council are as follows: 

  • President – Rufina Paul of Saint Lucia
  • First Vice President – Nisha Craigwell of Barbados
  • Second Vice President – Doris Mc. Intosh of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Secretary – Debbie Ann Francois of Trinidad and Tobago and 
  • Treasurer – Daria Poyotte of Saint Lucia

At that meeting, a number of decisions were taken. In order to provide scope for the eligibility of players that have been disadvantaged by the cancellation of the 2020 Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Tournament, Council approved the hosting of an Under 17 rather than Under 16 tournament for 2021. It was proposed that the down time should be used to advance e-learning in the areas of governance, umpiring and coaching. As it pertains to Post COVI-19 Caribbean Netball, a strategy committee was appointed. The Committee has the overall mandate of executing action plans designed to enhance the capacity of member countries to secure resources necessary to build resilience and enhance the profile of netball throughout the region.
