on

The Commonwealth Games, which is set to be held in Birmingham from July 28th to August 8th 2022, will include women’s cricket for the first time and cricket for only the second time after a mens’ 50 over event in 1998 at Kuala Lumpar. Then, South Africa captained by Shaun Pollock defeated Australia led by Steve Waugh for the gold medal. Hosts, England and six other top ranked teams in the ICC women’s T 20 rankings will gain automatic qualification for the 2022 Commonwealth Games with April 1st 2021 set as the cutoff date for the rankings. The final team taking part in the eight team event will be decided via a qualifier with a deadline date set as 21st January 2022. However, the format and details are yet to be worked out. If West Indies finish among the automatic qualifiers, the Caribbean nation that takes part in the games will be the winner of the 2021 T20 Blaze domestic competition. Birmingham 2022 is expected to be a fantastic showcase for the women’s game and the unveiling of the qualification is an exciting and important milestone.
