Was Commissioner Moncherry’s controversial decision to keep police officer Mitchel Vitalis motivated by money? The top cop explained to MBC Prime, Saint Lucian tax payers could be liable to foot the accumulating wage bills for implicated police officers who are either acquitted or win a ‘not guilty’ verdict after lengthy trials. As it stands, the State is legally required to continue paying the salaries of law enforcement officers who are on suspension or seconded due to criminal investigations. Commissioner Moncherry says it’s time for legislators to review that policy.
