Leader of Government Business Dr. Ernest Hilaire and Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet made another attempt to negotiate speaking orders ahead of the anticipated Budget debate which is scheduled to commence on April 28. Dr. Hilaire’s offer breaks from a long established convention which Mr. Chastanet maintains never existed. Mr. Chastanet’s absence from the previous Estimates debate earned him an unenviable spot in the political history books to become the first Opposition Leader who failed to make a contribution. Although the two lawmakers appear to be committed to settling the speaking order debacle this time around, neither of them seem to agree on who should go first.
