CASTRIES SOUTH MP DOUBLES DOWN ON THREAT TO SUE GOV’T, CUSTOMS BOSS OVER LUXURY VEHICLE FIASCO

Castries South MP and former High Commissioner to the UK Dr. Ernest Hilaire has accused the Chastanet led Administration of “political harassment”. Dr. Hilaire’s charge comes in response to a Court Summons in which Acting Customs Comptroller Peter Chiquot alleges he “failed to comply” with a request for invoices and other documents related to the purchase of a Land Rover SUV motor vehicle. The back and forth over alleged paper work discrepancies between the Customs and Excise Department and the Castries South MP have been ongoing since 2016. The former diplomat and his legal team have refuted the allegations. Closure in the drawn out Land Rover fiasco could finally be on the horizon as both sides ready for a courtroom showdown scheduled for January 21, 2021.

The Prime Minister’s Monday night address didn’t sit well with the Saint Lucia Labour Party Opposition.
