While its definition ranges between law enforcement agencies, a cold case is, at the very least an unsolved criminal investigation which remains open pending the discovery of new evidence. And coming off a record homicide count of 60 in 2017, MBC prime posed the question: how many remain unsolved? And…What happens with the cold cases? The question was posed to the RSLPF’s Crime Chief by Senior News Correspondent Miguel Fevrier at a press conference convened last Friday to present the year to date crime statistics or 2018.

A Vieux Fort Man is offering a reward to anybody with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of a man who burgled his home over the weekend. Of immense concern to the homeowner as well is the fact the perpetrator, who made off with numerous items, was armed with a firearm. POLICE COMMISSIONER TOUTS DROP IN SERIOUS CRIME DESPITE HISTORICALLY HIGH HOMICIDE RATE

According to Police Commissioner Severin Moncherry, serious crimes declined in 2020. Commissioner Moncherry credited the efforts of the Police Force for the reduction in serious crimes last year. The homicide rate however, has remained worryingly high the last four years. Deadly disputes have resulted in more than 220 murders since 2017 – a year when Saint Lucia recorded a historic 60 homicides in a calendar year. Commissioner Moncherry during a February 5 interview disclosed he’s directing law enforcement officers to engage with the community to offer “alternative solutions” to vulnerable groups.
