Businessman encourages persons to give but don’t exploit

Local Businessman, Evaristus Jn. Marie has commended donors who assist disadvantaged people without creating a big show. Jn Marie says however, it is important that some exposure is given so other communities can follow suit. His statements come following the establishment of a Jn Marie and Family Scholarship Fund for deserving students in the community of Laborie.

The Labour Department has engaged with legal experts to address an emerging trend. Private sector bosses are firing employees who refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine. Labour Commissioner Cornelia Jn Baptiste explained the practice may not be unlawful. The government has resisted imposing vaccine mandates but that has not deterred employers from reworking workplace policy to require workers to take the jab or risk termination.

CSA EXPLORING LEGAL OPTIONS FOR WORKERS FIRED FOR REFUSING COVID JAB

The Civil Service Association wants local employers to refrain from firing workers who are unwilling to get vaccinated. Numerous companies have begun introducing new health and safety policies that now require workers to get the COVID vaccine to keep their jobs. More than a dozen workers previously employed at a manufacturing plant were fired for “failing to comply” with a new workplace vaccine mandate. Their decision to refuse the COVID jab has cost them severance pay. However, the CSA believes all is not lost and legal action could compel their former boss to pay up.

MANUFACTURING COMPANY FIRES DOZENS OF EMPLOYEES FOR REFUSING COVID-19 VACCINATION

Refusing the COVID-19 vaccine has placed a number of workers previously employed with Northern American Assemblies on the breadline. Northern American Assemblies amended its health and safety policy making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for its employees. A “workplace vaccination survey” conducted by the Chamber of Commerce reported a significant number of local companies support COVID vaccine mandates as a job requirement for workers. The terminated Northern American Assemblies workers have taken their grievances to the Labour Department.
